In this weeks edition we will look at why we started Threadlings and a great sustainable tip.

Let’s jump right in.

Why we started Threadlings

It was back in 2020 that I had an idea on children’s clothing subscription. The idea was pretty simple. People select a bundle of clothes and they get some clothes. Once they are done with them they send them back and get another bundle. The one difference at the time was these clothes would be brand new.

Then life threw me two big things:

  1. I stumbled across a number that stopped me cold: every year the UK sends 350,000 tonnes of perfectly wearable children's clothes to landfill—most worn just a handful of times.

  2. My daughter arrived and turned this statistic into my lived reality. By six months in, our attic and cupboards resembled a soft cotton mountain range. We had bags everywhere: "3-6 months," "6-9 months," "worn once but met a banana"... you know how it goes.

A very high number of these are wearable, almost all of them in fact.

When I started talking to other parents, I heard the same story on repeat:

"We've run out of storage."

"She wore it twice before outgrowing it!"

"I'm saving it for baby #2... but our house is bursting at the seams."

I know a lot of parents keep the clothes and have these ready for child number two, we did the same, great job. But there is sometimes a need for some additional clothes whether for nursery, weddings or birthdays. Or even like us with our second we needed clothes in the newborn size. A late night dash to get some clothes that actually fitted vs those that didn’t fit.

I wanted to solve a problem, a storage problem and a waste problem. As a parent to two girls I know the amount of clothes children go through (my eldest does 4-5 outfit changes a day…). Children’s clothes shouldn’t be part of the fast fashion trend, childrens clothes should be affordable and re-used when you are finished with them.

So I flipped my original plan on its head. Instead of adding more new clothes to the world, why not keep the lovely stuff already out there in circulation?

  • Choose a bundle that matches your little one's size and adventure level

  • Let them play, explore, and yes—make glorious messes

  • When they outgrow it, pop everything in our prepaid bag and we'll magic the next size to your door

  • We deep-clean, mend, and rebundle every returned item (anything beyond saving becomes scrunchies, patches, and play mats—I'm not joking!)

The mission is beautifully simple: more adventures per romper, fewer rompers in landfill—and significantly less storage Tetris for us grown-ups.

Our goal is remove one item of that never ending to do list. Parenting is hard dressing your children shouldn’t be a battle with sizes and running to the shops. And then left with a what do we do with all these clothes?!

A tiny ask

If you've found yourself nodding along, could you forward this email to:

  • That friend drowning in babygrows

  • Your nursery manager who's forever battling the lost-property mountain

  • The parent WhatsApp group that lights up at 2am with "anyone have clothes for a sudden growth spurt?"

Why does it matter? Because the more families in our circle, the more clothes stay in play—and the sooner we can launch properly. Plus, for every friend who joins through your link, we'll add an extra outfit and a surprise "little explorer" accessory to your first month.

Thank you for being here at the beginning. Together we're showing that kids can outgrow their clothes withoutoutgrowing the planet.

How does Threadlings work?

How it works (super-simple):

  1. Pick a bundle. You tell us sizes, styles and seasonal needs.

  2. Play hard. Your little one lives life; stains and scuffs are on us.

  3. Swap. When the clothes get tight, pop them back in the bag and we’ll send the next size up—freshly washed, quality-checked and ready for action.

We have three bundles currently available:

  1. Essentials Bundle - £10 per month: 7-9 everyday heroes your child needs—durable basics that withstand playground adventures, meal mishaps, and countless washes while keeping them comfy from sunrise to bedtime.

  2. Premium Bundle - £25 per month: Approximately 12 elevated styles meet eco-conscious parenting. Hand-selected statement pieces and quality classics that look brand-new but come with the earth-friendly impact of pre-loved clothing.

  3. Adventure Bundle - £15 per month: 10 items built for the explorers, the mud-puddle jumpers, and the non-stop movers. Extra-durable play clothes that can handle anything your little adventurer discovers.

Once you are done with the clothes, just send them back and we’ll send you out a new bundle. We’ll also notify you about thinking of getting the next size up too.

Sustainable Parent Corner

I know first hand how hard it is to be a sustainable parent with nappies, washing and bottles and don’t get me started on that lack of sleep! Sometimes we just all do the easy thing to get by and just a reminder, that is perfectly ok. Don’t beat yourself up.

In this section we provide one tip and one product recommendation to help you in your day to day as a parent.

Sustainable Tip

Zap Stains While They’re “Fresh-ish”
Keep a little spray bottle (½ water, ½ eco-dish soap, plus a squeeze of lemon) near the hamper. A couple of squirts on tomato sauce or grass streaks buys you time until wash-day and stops stains setting—so clothes survive more rounds of the Threadlings circuit.

Product Recommendation

We absolutely love the Kit & Kin nappies and other products. They have a lot of great products from nappies, wipes through to house cleaning products.

If you haven’t checked them out already would highly recommend that you do!

And that’s all for this newsletter. I hope you have enjoyed reading and found are ready for what is coming this summer.

We are launching very soon!
